PARK SLOPE VOLUNTEER AMBULANCE CORPS

 Budgets and Resource Needs

As PSVAC has moved into the new headquarters and has plans to expand its operations, we have needs that are both in-kind and financial in nature. Aside form what the Corps currently possesses, much has be provided directly by the membership. However, this source of support has its limitations.

Funding for general operating/programming support is needed. This will help to provide PSVAC with the consumable medical supplies needed for patient care, fuel and vehicle supplies for the ambulance, insurance coverage, telephone and two-way radio expenses, yearly license and certification fees, and protective equipment for crew member operations, etc. Programmatically, new funding resources will enable us to provide EMT and CPR training to members of PSVAC as well as others in the community wishing such training, to perform outreach and safety/first aid education within the community, especially in underserved populations within our community.

Income is generated in several ways. Although PSVAC does not charge patients directly for any services provided, PSVAC does participate in 'third-party billing". Essentially, if the patient has insurance, Medicaid or Medicare, PSVAC will submit a request to the respective insurance company to pay PSVAC what would be paid if a private ambulance company had provided service. However, many patients do not have insurance. For those who do, there are occasions where the insurance companies will not pay a claim, regardless of the medical necessity of treatment/transport provided. Approximately twenty percent of all insurance claims are paid, which is average in the industry.

We seek grant and in-kind support from corporations, foundations and governmental sources. We also accept donations from individuals and from the community at large. As a non-profit organization, no single member of the organization benefits personally from any revenue or resources the Corps receives. All proceeds and funding received are solely for the operation of PSVAC.
